Bringing God closer to our community ...
‘They gave offerings of whatever they could—far more than they could afford!—pleading for the privilege of helping out in the relief of poor Christians.’
This is how the apostle Paul described the response of the churches in Macedonia to the news that their fellow believers were in need. Project Wingi gives each of us as individuals and a church ‘the privilege of helping out in the relief of poor Christians.’
‘Wingi’ is the Swahili word for abundance or plenty used in 2 Corinthians 8 where Paul writes ‘at the present time your plenty (wingi) will supply what they need …’

As a church we have developed links with Reverend Simon Vomo in Tanzania who pastors a rural church in Chekereni (close to Arusha and within sight on a clear day of Mount Kilimanjaro). Pastor Vomo has responsibility for a large district for training and literature. His heart is to help rural pastors come together for teaching, fellowship and counselling. Pastor Vomo preached at Shirley in November 2008.
From the beginning of 2010, through church giving and sponsorship, we are helping to support both Pastor Vomo's ministry and those of other pastors in and around Arusha.
