Why waiting can be good

On Friday morning I had two experiences of waiting.

The first was certainly the better one as we gathered in the early morning to start our prayer day. I was personally feeling somewhat becalmed in my life and perhaps in terms of where the church was. What do you do in such times?

Well God clearly spoke to us to wait on Him and to be prepared for the wind to blow again. There is the promise of renewal and reviving as we wait upon Him (Isaiah 40).

Waiting can be a time of reaffirming our trust in God and to listen to Him speaking.

It can also be a time when we prepare for what may be ahead. In our small groups in Ephesians, we are looking at putting off those behaviours and habits that are not of Christ and putting on new behaviours. Elsewhere in Hebrews it talks about running a race and putting off all those things that hinder us. That's best done before the race starts.

So let's receive God's Word in this time where perhaps we are less busy to 'put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.' (Eph 4:22-4)

The second one? Oh that just had to be routine waiting for the dentist - not quite so enlightening but still necessary!
