Better felt than telt

This week in small groups we've been looking at 'Learning God's ways' and the different ways in which we can do this.

God's Word must be obeyed and put into practice. This is where the Word becomes flesh in our experience. It is the bit of the gospel that other people can see and experience for themselves. It is where our love is expressed in deeds rather than just words.

Until this happens, our learning is incomplete.

One of the hardest lessons to learn though is what we looked at last Sunday - the humblings of God.

There is an old chorus which goes 'When I feel the touch of your hand upon my life, it causes me to sing a song that I love you Lord.' Very often, the touch of God's hand on our life is a humbling touch as we talked about last Sunday - 'Humble yourselves under the mighty HAND of God ...' Is it coincidence that the word 'hand' is used here? God is intimately and personally involved in these times of humbling.

Paul talks about us not thinking of ourselves more highly than we ought to. Very often we learn and relearn this through God's humblings. These times are there to bring us in renewed submission and humility to God and confess our need for Him. Without Him we can do nothing, with Him nothing is impossible.
