Becoming like your parents!
We try our best most of the time not to end up looking and sounding like our parents but genes and upbringing usually prevail in the end.
I was always getting called "John" when I was younger by those who knew my dad and had the experience repeated yesterday for the first time in probably 30 years when talking to someone from my dad's church on the phone. It's now an experience that our Tim has to endure. I once had a head of hair just like Tim and clearly we sound alike as often now on the phone he is confused for me!
The confusion occurs because there are points of similarity in looks, speech, behaviour, mannerisms, etc.
So ... do we look and sound or, really more importantly, LIVE like Jesus?
Would anyone be 'confused' enough to think that at times our lives are so like Jesus'? Because that's how our lives should be.
The fourth of our 5B's is 'BECOMING like Christ through the work of the Holy Spirit.'
I never really had to work hard at becoming like my dad. It was there, inbred in me and amplified through my upbringing. But I do have to work hard at becoming like Christ. It is not something that I can do in my own strength or by my own devices. I need God continually working in me, sometimes powerfully and dramatically and at other times almost imperceptibly, changing me to be more like Jesus.
