15 mins of fame!

Well more like 2 mins really if you saw BBC Midlands Today at 10.30 pm last Monday evening. If you can remember back that far into the mini-ice age (where has the snow gone?), there was a feature on the traffic chaos that occurred right outside the church. The railway bridge was virtually unsurpassable and the top part of Green Lane was sheet ice. Buses were being turned round as it was impossible for them to get up (or was it down) the road. The report said that one of the buses almost tipped over as it tried to turn round.

All this drama and chaos, and we were totally unaware of it as both Cathy and I were not working that day because of illness.

As I saw the pictures of the church in the report, it struck me how important our place in the community is - in the middle of everything that goes on, good and bad. Bringing God closer to our community ... bringing our community closer to God.

We have strong links now with Mill Lodge School, Coronation Youth Club and Mason House. We need to be praying for these places and those who run them.

But beyond that we need to be praying for a breakthrough into the houses and families around the church - ways in which we can bring God closer to the community. We are still unaware of so much that goes on. We pray that as we progress through 2010 that will be less so and we will both see and seize God-given opportunities to 'bring God closer to our community and our community closer to God.'
